Indian Telecom Operator adds 16 Million Subscribers in 26 Days

NEW DELHI: Reliance Jio Infocomm on Sunday said that it crossed 16 million subscribers in September, its first month of operations.

Jio claimed that it has achieved this growth faster than any other telecom operator or start up in the world including the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype.

The 4G entrant had announced commercial services on September 5 with the launch of “Welcome Offer.” Under the offer, Jio is offering 4GB data per day, along with unlimited voice and SMS services till December 31.

“We are delighted and humbled by the overwhelming response across India to the Jio Welcome Offer. Jio is built to empower every Indian with the power of data,” Mukesh Ambani. Chairman, Reliance Industries Limited said.

“We are customer-obsessed and committed to improve every day to exceed expectations of our customers,” he added.

Jio said that it now has introduced Aadhaar-based paper-less Jio SIM activation across 3,100 cities and towns. This process will be extended across the country and fully stabilized for satisfactory on-boarding experience in the next few weeks.

“This enables the customer to complete the SIM activation process in a matter of minutes, with only his/her Aadhaar number,” the company said in a statement.
